Who Should Attend SBL?

All thought leaders, learning stakeholders, and educators who teach through various platforms should attend SBL. For information click here.

Where can attendees find parking?

Homewood offers several public parking options in the community. Street parking is readily available.

How many people have attended in the past?

SBL averages close to 350 in attendance each year.

How do attendees request Act 48 Hours?

State of Black Learning Conference attendees seeking Act 48 continuing education hours must complete the session verification form that will be provided at the conference check-in table.  Attendees will turn in the verification form on their last day of participation in exchange for a Certificate of Attendance, that will include a conference certifying signature and the number of hours earned. Attendees must provide this certificate and Professional ID number to their Lead Educational Agency to report your Act 48 hours to the PDE Professional Record Management System (PERMS). Where is the conference located?

The State of Black Learning committee has selected the Energy Innovation Center to host the 2021 conference, located:

What is included in registration?

General Registration includes:

  • Includes access to virtual experience and covers full in-person conference (TBD)
  • This would include exhibits, a diverse offering of sessions, local artistry, onsite parking, access to local food trucks, eateries, conference materials and more.

Virtual Registration Only includes: 

  • Includes access to 2 keynotes, 2 live panel discussions and 4 breakout sessions (2 on both days) and live q & a for two days and recorded presentations

Is the conference handicap accessible?

Yes. There are handicap accessible entrances to each of the locations designated to host the conference.

What type of sessions are available?

Our presentation formats are designed to better appeal to our registrants learning styles. All presentation formats are designed to encompass the conference theme and seek to avoid traditional boring workshops.

In-depth, instructional program with hands-on learning activities and specific takeaways. 

 

Case Study 60 Minutes

A focused presentation highlighting research findings from relevant initiatives and projects. 

 

Show & Share 60 Minutes

An activity-based session that facilitates interactive and creative learning techniques. 

 

Talk Backs 60 Minutes

A speaker-led open conversation with attendees around a particular topic.

 

Power Talks 15 Minutes / 15 Minutes Q&A

A short solo presentation highlighting new and emerging ideas.

In-depth, instructional program with hands-on learning activities and specific takeaways.

A focused presentation highlighting research findings from relevant initiatives and projects.

A speaker-led open conversation with attendees around a particular topic.

How are presenters compensated?

Individuals accepted to present will receive a waived registration 

Are there volunteer opportunities?

Yes. Please complete the Volunteer Application to learn more. 

Are there sponsorship opportunities?

Yes. There are a variety of ways to support SBL. Please visit the Sponsorship page to learn more about these opportunities.

Are there scholarships available?

Scholarship opportunities may be available. Please email info@stateofblacklearning.com for more details.

Are there other SBL-related events that occur throughout the year?

Yes. Each year we release a SBL In-Action Guide and host mid-year events  that  will allow participants to make practical implementation year-round. To find out when this is happening, follow us on facebook and Eventbrite. 

Is childcare available?

Currently childcare is not being provided. However, we are working with potential partners to provide childcare at a small fee for attendees who are in need of this service.

Is there a daily rate or one flat fee?

No. The registration rate is already reduced.
